JOHANNESBURG - Nearly three months since the funeral of two boys who drowned while at a discipline camp in Centurion, the Gauteng Education Department said that a report looking into their deaths had been finalised.
Sibusiso Sibiya lost his life while attempting to save Siphamandla Peterson, who dived into the Hennops River unsupervised.
The duo is among three pupils who died this year alone.
Gauteng Education MEC Matome Chiloane was quick to dismiss the idea that his department was not attending to the investigation of the two boys’ deaths.
Chiloane noted the numerous drownings in recent years, adding that a number of contingencies had been put in place.
"But the report is ready, we will present it with its recommendations."
The MEC remains adamant that the education department is transparent, cares for pupils and will continue to serve its people.
