'There's nothing special': Residents in Chiawelo, Soweto unfazed by Ramaphosa's presence
One voter said, "I feel nothing, because we are from the same hood. He is from here I am from here, there’s nothing special."
ANC President Cyril Ramaphosa casts his vote in Chiawelo, Soweto.
JOHANNESBURG - Some voters in the president’s home town of Chiawelo in Soweto have been unfazed by his presence as he cast his vote.
The president and his wife Tshepo Motsepe voted at the Hitekani Primary School.
He praised the IEC for the smooth voting at the station.
One voter said: "I feel nothing because we are from the same hood. He is from here, I am from here, there’s nothing special."
While some residents stood at their gates and doorsteps to see the president arrive, others completely ignored his presence.
"We are tired of him, we want something new, we want change."
But some are holding onto the hope that Ramaphosa could be the answer to their woes.
"I need a job. If they can give us R350 grant, surely they can give us jobs?"
The people of Chiawelo continue to wait patiently in line for their turn to vote before voting stops at 9pm.
