JOHANNESBURG - As the clock ticks towards election day, the Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) has clarified the confusion about where people can go to vote.
Millions of South Africans will head to the polls on Wednesday for the 7th national democratic elections.
The IEC says voters can only cast their votes where they are registered, unless they have formally notified the commission that they will not be in that area in writing.

IEC CEO Sy Mamabolo said while people were allowed to vote anywhere in the past, this was amended in 2019.
"There were allegations that people voted at their voting stations and then proceeded to vote somewhere else. Then Parliament said the facility can continue but let it be resulted," said Mamabolo.
Mamabolo has encouraged voters to use the IEC's different platforms to find out where they are supposed to vote.
"And there are several modalities to do that, you can use the sms 32810, send your ID there, you can check on the website, you can check on the contact centre, you can check on the app," he said.
