As election preparations ramp up across the country, offices will now be open for five hours on Saturdays to allow for the identity document (ID) collection and other services.

JOHANNESBURG - The Department of Home Affairs has announced an extension to its operating hours until 25 May.

As election preparations ramp up across the country, offices will now be open for five hours on Saturdays to allow for identity document (ID) collection and other services.

The department's Siya Qoza said that at least 40,000 IDs were unclaimed at Home Affairs.

"The offices will open from 08h00 to 13h00 on each day for citizens to collect their IDs. In this period, the offices will open for 7 Saturdays, with only 27 April excluded."
