JOHANNESBURG - The Air Traffic and Navigation Services (ATNS) dismissed a video showing two aircraft that almost collided on a runway at the OR Tambo international airport as a ruse.
A viral video on social media believed to be data from a flight radar app shows SAA and Lufthansa planes narrowly averting disaster on Friday evening.
But the ATNS said the footage was manipulated.
The aerospace company said its assessment of the video shows a possible discrepancy in the time stamps with no evidence there was an aircraft taking off at the time as claimed in the video caption.
It adds that the manipulated footage is of an aircraft navigation process at an airport, which is an ordinary operational occurrence.
In a bid to ease concerns on social media, the ATNS said there was no runway incursion or risk of any occurring as shown in the video.
