CAPE TOWN - Capetonians have until March 8th to apply for the first round of the city's cash-for-power programme.
The initiative gives residents an opportunity to sell their excess rooftop solar power back to the municipality for cash.
The initiative was first launched in June last year for businesses.
Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis said the programme formed part of the city's several other measures aimed at ending load shedding in future.
The mayor urged Capetonians with the correct setup at their homes to take advantage of this opportunity.
"Those who don't make it by the end of March need not worry, there will be further rounds. But this is our first and important one and we want everyone to please participate."
Hill-Lewis said they've made the application process very easy for everyone.
"We understand that this is a huge source of frustration for many Capetonians who want to make this investment. We are now in the testing phase of our online application portal, and the idea is to launch it very shortly."
