GP Edu Dept forms independent body to investigate Temilton's death

The grade 7 pupil from Laerskool Queenswood was laid to rest in her home province of Mpumalanga on Saturday.


JOHANNESBURG - The Gauteng Education Department has formed an independent body set to look into the circumstances surrounding the drowning of 12-year-old Latoya Temilton at a school camp on the 20th of January.
 
The grade 7 pupil from Laerskool Queenswood was laid to rest in her home province of Mpumalanga on Saturday.

Her death sparked outrage among parents at the school who were allegedly kept in the dark about the tragedy.
 
Temilton's passing has prompted the provincial education department to take the necessary steps to look into the incident.
 
On Monday, Education MEC Matome Chilone will pay a visit to her school to introduce law firm members who will form part of the investigative team.
 
"Now the firm will be introduced for them to undertake the necessary investigation which will then assist us to take necessary decisions as per recommendations that will be coming from them after their investigation," said provincial education department spokesperson Steve Mabona
 
Meanwhile, police will launch their own probe set to run concurrently with the department's.
