CAPE TOWN - The Democratic Alliance (DA) said that it was ready for its national day of action on Wednesday to oppose Eskom's proposed electricity tariff increase.
The party said that it would be holding it across all nine provinces to fight the proposed 36% increase, which still has to be granted by the National Energy Regulator of South Africa (NERSA).
The DA's Energy spokesperson, Kevin Mileham, said this mass action was being organised ahead of the urgent debate in Parliament scheduled for Thursday.
"The DA is resolute in its opposition to these extortionate increases, which threaten the livelihood of millions of South Africans, forcing them to choose between keeping the lights on or putting food on the table. This mass action is being organised ahead of the urgent debate in Parliament scheduled for Thursday, 19 September 2024, where the DA will formally oppose Eskom's exorbitant demands."
