The City of Cape Town is rolling out its Computerised Learner’s Licence Testing System at 18 of its Driving Licence Testing Centres.
The system replaces the current manual booklet-based test and will allow learner’s licence applicants to complete their assessment using digital touch-screens.
Installation has already been completed at Brackenfell, Elsies River, Joe Gqabi and Lingelethu West, and the system will go live at Brackenfell and Elsies River on Monday.
Safety and Security MMC JP Smith said the rollout is being phased in, with all centres expected to be operating on the new system by mid-February next year.
He said the upgrade is long overdue.
“Not only will it speed up the time it takes to complete the test, but also the results. Perhaps it can even reduce waiting times for appointments. We are really excited about the change and hopefully it will unlock further positive digital developments like the online booking system, which is only available in a few provinces currently,” he said.
