Police say more arrests are imminent after four suspects linked to multiple shootings in Gugulethu, Cape Town, were taken into custody.

The alleged gunmen, aged between 24 and 30, were arrested on Friday.

They are accused of killing a man and a woman in New Cross last month.

The victims reportedly visited a house in the area for a social gathering.

On Monday, three more people were shot and killed near the scene of the first incident.

Police spokesperson André Traut said that the investigation is ongoing.

"Through intelligence driven operations and tireless investigations the team was able to connect the suspects to both crime scenes. An additional suspect was also arrested for the possession of a prohibited firearm which will undergo ballistic testing."
