The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has condemned the practice of selling queue positions at its offices across the country.
The agency said the practice is illegal and exploits vulnerable people, including the elderly and those living with disabilities who rely on social grants to survive.
SASSA has vowed to act against those involved, including any officials who may have assisted.
The agency’s spokesperson, Paseka Letsatsi, said security will be strengthened, with law enforcement brought in to ensure those responsible are held accountable.
“SASSA acknowledges challenges experienced in some of its offices in ensuring effective and seamless service delivery which is compounded by systematic issues.
“CEO Matlou has reiterated the commitment of the agency in jerking up operational efficiency in assisting its clients, and this is done as a number one priority in line with SASSA’s strategic objective of improved customer experience.”
