Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema will know his fate on Thursday when judgement is handed down in the East London Magistrates Court.

The red berets’ leader was convicted in 2025 for violating gun laws for firing a rifle at a rally attended by more than 20,000 people.

His enthusiastic supporters painted kuGompo City red outside the courthouse as sentencing proceedings got underway.

The State has asked the court to set a strong example with Malema and recommended a prison sentence of at least 15 years.
