In the high-profile trial of alleged underworld gang boss Nafiz Modack, a witness for the defence, South African Police Service Captain Alfred Barker, was warned by Western Cape High Court Judge Robert Henney to seek legal advice before possibly incriminating himself.
Barker is being cross-examined by the state after being called by Modack's defence attorney to testify on his behalf.
Modack claims Barker assisted him to investigate top cops Jeremy Vearey and the now deceased Charl Kinnear for alleged corruption.
State prosecutor Blaine Lazarus questioned Captain Barker about his arrest of state witness Mohamed Hanware in December 2018.

Hanware previously testified he hatched a plot to retrieve debt from Modack by convincing him he could influence Vearey and Kinnear with bribes to have six firearms seized from his home returned.
Barker said he investigated Modack's claims of corruption against Vearey and Kinnear, but nothing came of it.
Lazarus questioned Barker on Wednesday about his arrest of Hanware for his involvement in the alleged corruption.
Lazarus: "The accused alleged he was tortured by you to give you a statement against other people. Photos to this effect were produced. Case therefore withdrawn. Do you want to comment on this?"
Barker: "That is correct, my lord."
Before adjourning for lunch, Henney warned Barker to consider taking legal advice before answering any further.
