Gauteng police have welcomed the arrest of two officers on charges of corruption and extortion.

The pair allegedly accepted a bribe from an undocumented foreign national whose passport had expired during a Safer Easter operation in the Johannesburg CBD on Thursday.

Authorities said that they are working closely with Crime Intelligence to clamp down on rogue officers accused of targeting undocumented foreign nationals for bribes.

Gauteng Police Spokesperson Brenda Muridili said “R3,000 cash, as well as the passport belonging to the illegal immigrant were seized by the police. The officers, as well as the illegal immigrant were detained, and they will be appearing before court on 7 April 2026.”
