The Giriyondo Border Post in the Kruger National Park is set to reopen this week, following months of disruption caused by significant flood damage.

The vital cross-border route between South Africa and Mozambique was forced to close in January after heavy rainfall and subsequent flooding devastated local infrastructure.

Authorities have now confirmed that the post will officially resume operations on Tuesday, restoring a key access point for international tourists and local travellers alike.

The Giriyondo Border Post serves as a primary link between the Kruger National Park and the Limpopo National Park in Mozambique. Together, these parks form a core component of the Great Limpopo Transfrontier Conservation Area.

The reopening is expected to provide a much-needed boost to regional eco-tourism and cross-border travel, which had been stifled for weeks due to limited access.

According to SANParks, the restoration of the border post is part of a broader recovery initiative aimed at repairing park infrastructure damaged during the recent period of severe weather.

Meanwhile, the Border Management Authority (BMA) is expected to brief the media on its Easter operational plan, including security measures and adjusted operating hours at ports of entry, on Sunday morning.

The BMA says these interventions are aimed at ensuring safe and efficient movement of travellers during the busy holiday period.
