Evidence presented at the Maglanga Commission this afternoon has linked Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema to alleged tender manipulation within the Tshwane Municipality.
The allegations center on a 2024 tender issued by the Tshwane Metro Police Department (TMPD), which sought private security firms to guard the city’s critical infrastructure.
Gauteng Police Sergeant Fannie Nkosi testified before the commission regarding his relationships with senior metro officials and political figures.
Nkosi revealed that in March last year, TMPD Deputy Chief Umashi Dlamini sent him a WhatsApp message containing a list of seven specific companies.
According to the testimony, Dlamini indicated that these companies were recommended by individuals representing the EFF and its leader.

"According to the general (Dlamini) he was approached, I don’t know by who, but some unknown individuals... they gave him these security companies and further said to him these companies belong to CIC Juju and they further elaborated that the same companies were also given to the CFO (Chief Financial Officer, Gareth Mnisi)."
While Nkosi testified that he did not personally know who "Juju" referred to, the commission noted that "Juju" is a widely recognised nickname for Malema, who is also formally addressed by his party as the Commander-in-Chief (CIC).
At this stage of the inquiry, it remains unclear whether the seven companies mentioned in the communication were ultimately awarded the security tender.
