The parents of a four-year-old girl, charged with her murder, are expected to remain in custody for another four months while awaiting trial on 27 July 2026.
The child, Baby Nikita, was allegedly raped and severely assaulted by her father at their family home in Eldorado Park last year.
According to reports, the young girl’s brutally bruised body was discovered in the one-bedroom shack the family rented. She was initially taken to a local clinic before being transferred to Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries.
The accused have been in custody since August last year.
During their second appearance at the Johannesburg High Court on Thursday, the court heard that the couple intends to plead not guilty to all charges.
The trial is scheduled to begin in July and is expected to run for approximately 15 days.
