GDE 'closely monitoring learners' after private scholar transport accident in Pretoria

The Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) MEC Matome Chiloane said they’re working with all relevant authorities to establish the circumstances surrounding a private scholar transport accident in Pretoria.
Fifteen learners, who were onboard the minibus taxi at the time of the accident, were injured on the road between Pretoria West and Hartbeespoort on Monday morning.
The minibus was transporting learners from various schools around Pretoria.
They include Danville Secondary School, Lotus Gardens Secondary School, Brindhaven Primary School, S.K. Moseneke Primary School, Hoërskool Pretoria Wes, and Bagale Primary School.
The learners were transported to various local hospitals for medical assessment and treatment.
GDE spokesperson Steve Mabona said they are closely monitoring the condition of the learners.
“The department is deeply concerned by this incident, which placed the lives of learners at risk. We are closely monitoring the condition of the affected learners and are working with relevant authorities and stakeholders to establish the full details surrounding the accident,” said MEC Chiloane.
No fatalities have been reported.
