Beautiful Cape Town consistently rakes in "best of" ratings in global surveys including almost annually, best city in the world.
The variety of eateries and world-class food on offer is part of the attractive package that lures people to both visit and settle here.
And now, as 2026 gets into full swing, a local pizza is in the spotlight, with Time Out Travel's list of Best Pizzas in the world.
The global media and hospitality business rated 18 pizzas across the globe.
However, this time around, a pizzeria in Johannesburg pipped the Mother City to 6th place, with the Cape Town choice coming in at number 11.
Little Kitchener’s Pizzeria in Joburg was lauded for its Pepperoni and Hot Honey Pizza.
With a San Marzano tomato base, it is topped with Fior di Latte mozzarella, spicy pepperoni, and a generous drizzle of local home-made hot honey, writes Time Out's local expert.
"This is a messy, glorious masterclass in balance – the saltiness of the curled pepperoni edges is cut through by the sticky, sweet heat of the honey."
The Cape Town speciality coming in 11th features some of the same ingredients.
Pizza Connection's Capetonian is topped with Fior de Latte and San Marzano, along with pancetta, red onion and avocado.
What seals its rating though, is the base:
"They use organic, chemical-free imported flour and natural yeast in a multi-stage, 48-hour fermentation process that borders on science and passion in equal parts. The Napoli-style bases are baked hot and fast to produce a crust that’s flavourful, airy, and blistered. And they’ll happily do an even crunchier Roma-style base, if you prefer."
LIttle Kitchener's Pizzeria and Pizza Connection beat specialists in world cities including Paris, Chicago and Lisbon.
The title of the world's best pizza went to Mama’s Too in New York which actually beat out an Italian nominee, Pizzeria Romana in Rome.
London's Short Road Pizza took third place.
In 2025, another Cape Town eatery featured on Time Out's best pizza list, with family-run Novo's 'Fellini' pizza ranked eighth in the world.
