Evidence leaders at the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry have said they are unconvinced that senior police official Rachel Matjeng was ever in a romantic relationship with suspected crime boss Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala.
Matjeng wrapped up her two-day testimony at the commission on Friday.
She focused on her alleged relationship with Matlala and the irregular R360 million tender awarded to his company.

SAPS senior says money received from Matlala was romantic gifting
Evidence presented before the commission previously has implicated Matjeng in a number of improper activities.
Among other things, she’s alleged to have received money and gifts from Matlala.
Matjeng has repeatedly maintained whatever benefits she received from Matlala were romantic in nature and not bribes.
However, evidence leader Thabang Pooe said there’s nothing to prove she was ever in a romantic relationship with Matlala.
“You have not given us any evidence of your relationship. For example, people would provide a picture or something to show that I was in a relationship with someone.”
Matjeng is listed as one of five police officials referred for investigation by the commission in an interim report handed over to President Cyril Ramaphosa.
