The uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party said Brian Molefe’s resignation from Parliament will allow him to focus on building the organisation’s financial sustainability.
The former Eskom CEO resigned from his seat in the National Assembly on Wednesday, bringing an end to his one-year-and-four-month tenure in the country's highest legislative house.
His resignation comes a few weeks after he was announced as the MK Party’s treasurer general - its fourth one in just two years.
Molefe was sworn in as a member of Parliament (MP) for the MK Party in August 2024.
He was sworn in alongside former Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (PRASA) CEO Lucky Montana and former Transnet CEO Siyabonga Gama.
The three men led the State-owned entities under former State president and now MK Party leader Jacob Zuma.
Another commonality between them is that they all left their jobs under a cloud of corruption and were implicated in the State capture reports.
While they have never been convicted, Molefe and Gama are currently out on bail for a corruption matter.
Meanwhile, Montana resigned in 2025 as an MK Party MP and dropped out of politics altogether.
