Phala Phala trial: State details R9.5 million windfall in accused's account

Evidence presented in court shows over R9.5 million was deposited into the bank account of the alleged mastermind in the Phala Phala burglary, Imanuwela David.
David is charged alongside siblings Froliana and Ndilinasho Joseph.
They are accused of breaking into President Cyril Ramaphosa’s farm in February 2020 and stealing $580,000 in cash.
The trial is being heard in the Modimolle Regional Court in Limpopo.

A new state witness took the stand on Tuesday, a Hawks detective working in the financial crimes division.
He was tasked with investigating the financial transactions of accused number one, Imanuwela David, and his alleged accomplices.
The detective said there were large amounts of money flowing into David’s accounts after February 2020, which is when the burglary at Phala Phala took place.
"The total amount that was deposited for the period 3 February 2020 to 31 May 2022, was R9,594,145.13," he said.
According to earlier testimony in this case, prior to 2020, David was between jobs.
His last known formal employment was as a security guard.
