The KwaZulu-Natal transport department is calling for the drivers of a taxi and truck that collided earlier to be charged with multiple murder.

Eleven people were killed during the horrific crash in Isipingo, south of Durban Thursday morning.

Eight other people have since sustained critical injuries from the incident.

Transport MEC Sibiniso Duma arrived at the gruesome scene with some of the bodies still uncollected.

Following an inspection, law enforcement authorities found that the truck had worn-out tyres.

This, while the taxi driver’s permit had expired in 2023, and his vehicle was found to be heavily overloaded.

Duma says both drivers are under police guard.

“The RTMC is still going to deal with that, which is why already the truck drivers were accompanied by SAPS. I am sure the owner as well, it must be the same.”

The department has promised to help with funeral arrangements for the victims’ families.
