Three botched attacks on slain top cop Charl Kinnear and his family became the subject of the gang trial in the Western Cape High Court.

Alleged underworld gang boss Nafiz Modack and 14 others made another brief appearance on Monday.

The men face 122 charges for various crimes related to allegedly running a criminal enterprise.

Nafiz Modack's reexamination was postponed for a second time due to defense attorney advocate Pauline Andrews being absent due to illness.

The court agreed that Andrews needs to be present in court to defend her client, co-accused Amaal Jantjies.

It's the state's case that Modack paid Jantjies to plot three attacks on top cop Charl Kinnear in 2019.

Evidence shows Jantjies hired hitmen to fire gunshots at Kinnear's home in bishop lavis on two occasions.

Both times, the plan was interrupted by police patrols stationed outside the Kinnear family home.  A third attempt involved a botched hand grenade attack at the Kinnear residence. That plan was also foiled by the police.

Presiding judge Robert Henney postponed proceedings to the 13th of February for Andrews to be present in court.
