A group of Zulu maidens has staged a demonstration outside the Vereeniging magistrates' court as five suspects, accused of the murder of two young women, are expected to appear.

The group was arrested on Wednesday and faces charges of hijacking, kidnapping, and murder.

Nontokozo Mazibuko and Andiswa Sontangane, both from Poortjie, south of Johannesburg, were reported missing on New Year's Eve.

Eight days later, their bodies were found in an open veld in the same area.

The police arrested the group of men linked to the Evaton murders on Wednesday in Germiston.

The court is yet to make a ruling on whether the media will be allowed to broadcast proceedings.
