Three children between the ages of three and sixteen are among the people killed, while other victims have been hospitalised in critical condition.
Videos circulated by community members shortly after the attack show multiple bodies lying on top of one another inside the shebeen, with blood pooling across the floor.
It’s understood that the gunmen entered the establishment at around four o’clock in the morning and began shooting randomly at patrons.
Community members also claim the attackers moved into a bedroom and opened fire on children, who were among those killed.
Police spokesperson Athlenda Mathe said a manhunt for the suspects is underway.
“We are told that the 3-year-old is the child of the tavern's owner. One of the minors is also a younger brother of the shebeen owner.”
Masemola is making his way to the Saulsville hostel.
