The City of Cape Town says more of its police officers will be deployed across the metro, as part of its festive season safety operations.

Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis launched the campaign on Tuesday.

He said that Capetonians and visitors could expect beefed-up security on the roads, beaches, braai areas and tourism hotpots, including Table Mountain.

The mayor added that the extra deployment was not going to impact normal operations.

"So it does not in any way impact the normal deployments that we have in gang hotspots around the city. The more than 1,000 LEAP officers deployed to those hotspots every day in shifts, those will continue 24 hours a day, every day throughout the festive season."
