Western Cape Urban Mobility MEC - Isaac Sileku - has welcomed the postponement of new traffic laws.
Transport Minister Barabara Creecy on Monday postponed their implementation because some muncipalities were not yet ready for the next phase of the Administrative Adjudication of Road Traffic Offences Act.
Phase 2 of the AARTO Act was due to take effect in December, but that's now been pushed back to July, with a demerit system to be introduced in September next year.
Sileku said he had written the minister about concerns around the implementation.
"It was still unclear who was going to fund it and whether our municipalities would be ready. There have not been provision made on the side of our municipalities to cater for the implementation of AARTO."
