During a briefing at the Sophiatown police station, Police Commissioner Fannie Masemola said the victims were meant to be in school during the time of the attack.
Maureen Davis said that for months, she had been trying to keep her grandchildren and their friends safe after they started receiving threats.
"They were attending Westbury, but now from, the second term, they didn't go to school anymore. Yesterday, I wasn't here to protect them. We lost two of the friends here yesterday."
She said the suspected gang would wait for them before and after school.
"Because they can't go to school, they can't walk that side, most of the guys are there from Gerald Flare. This is the second time they shoot at my house."
She said this is the second time that there's been a shooting at her house, this time with the gangs succeeding.
