The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued a yellow level warning for severe thunderstorms over Gauteng, parts of the North West, and the Free State.
Forecasters say conditions are expected to deteriorate, with the warning likely to be upgraded to level four as damaging winds, hail, heavy downpours, and frequent lightning move in.
SAWS Lehlohonolo Thobela said that the inclement weather could pose a serious risk to infrastructure and public safety.
"This is due to heavy downpours, as well as low-lying areas and bridges that may be susceptible to localised flooding. Damage to infrastructure may also be possible due to damaging winds, as well as the possibility of hail over these areas.”
