CPUT student in court for alleged rape at CPUT off-campus residence

A 24-year-old student from the Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT) is appeared in the Cape Town Magistrates Court on Monday for allegedly raping a fellow student.
The alleged attack happened at an off-campus student residence in Browning Street, Observatory, on Saturday.
The suspect was arrested for allegedly raping a 23-year-old female student.
Police spokesperson FC van Wyk stated: "The complainant is a 23-year-old woman residing at the same address. This case was transferred to Cape Town FCS for further investigation. A 24-year-old male was arrested. Woodstock police were assisted by Public Order Police when a group of about 200 students gathered and started protesting because they wanted access to the suspect."
