'I was sober when I wrote this letter', Mchunu on disbanding PKTT

Police Minister Senzo Mchunu continued his testimony before Parliament's Ad Hoc Committee on Friday, telling MPs that he was of sober mind when he issued the directive to disband the Political Killings Task Team (PKTT).
Mchunu emphasised his reasons for disbanding the task team, saying he received several complaints about the team and concerns that it was flouting the country's public finance legislation.
The suspended minister appeared for his second day before the committee investigating allegations of police corruption made by KZN top cop Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi.
Mchunu's first day of testimony focused mainly on the allegedly illegal directive to disband the task team.

He questioned why the police had to deal with a task team that only focuses on a minority of cases and not the entire country.
Responding to evidence leader advocate Norman Arendse, Mchunu said he drafted the letter to disband the task team on New Year's Eve.
Personally, after careful consideration and he takes full responsibility.
"I don't want to leave any doubt in terms of who wrote the letter and why the letter was written. I therefore take full responsibility. I can even assure you that I was sober when I wrote this letter."
Mchunu said the task team's disbanding was not unique and that he issued a similar directive to disband the police inspectorate.
