Private forensic investigator Calvin Rafadi said he's been unfairly implicated before the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry "without a shred of evidence or credible proof that demonstrates corruption or criminality".
On Tuesday, messages between Rafadi and criminally accused tender tycoon Vusimuzi "Cat" Matlala were presented before the commission.
A series of WhatsApp messages, downloaded from Matlala's cellphone, was shared as part of evidence from an anonymous witness, labelled as Witness X.
Messages between Matlala and Rafadi show how Rafadi, on several occasions, requested money from Matlala for fuel, rent, and institutional fees.
Reading from Witness X's statement, Madlanga Commission evidence leader Advocate Adila Hassim: "The chat is characterised by requests of money or favours by Mr Rafadi.
"Mr Rafadi makes repeated requests for assistance with petrol and other help. Mr Rafadi returns the favours by contributing to a media narrative that suits Mr Matlala regarding the PKTT [political killings task team]."
In a written reply to EWN, Rafadi refuted the allegations, claiming they were being driven by fictional narratives and rogue elements within Crime Intelligence who were hellbent on silencing him because he had consistently highlighted their failure to act proactively in the fight against crime.
