Members of humanitarian organisation Gift of the Givers have been left traumatised following a hijacking incident in Lingelethu west in Khayelitsha.
The team was on duty on Friday evening when their vehicle was cut off at a stop street by a blue Toyota Yaris.
Between five and seven armed men reportedly surrounded the van and forced the aid workers into another vehicle.
The group was then driven around for about 40 minutes to a secluded area with no electricity.
Gift of the Givers’ Ali Sablay said that the local community was outraged when they heard about the incident.
"In an attempt to track the tracking device, the hijackers stripped the dashboard and inadvertently triggered the tracking device.”
Despite the trauma, Sablay said that the organisation remains committed to helping communities in need...
"We would like to commend the South African Police Services, specifically lieutenant general Patekile who sent out a team out to escort and ensure our teams safety in the area," said Sablay.
