Cooperative Governance Minister Velenkosini Hlabisa has pledged that government will act on the resolutions adopted at the recent Local Government Indaba.
The gathering brought together leaders from various spheres of government to deliberate on the challenges confronting municipalities.
In his closing remarks at the two-day event on Friday, Hlabisa emphasised that the indaba should not be reduced to a mere talk shop.
He said communities must see tangible change on the ground.

"Let us move forward with determination to implement these reforms, strengthen our municipalities, and build a local government system that truly serves the people of South Africa."
Hlabisa said the different spheres of government must work together to address the many issues in municipalities.
"Working in silos is not good. There's an expression that says, "If you want to go alone, take a walk. But if you want to take a journey, go with others". South Africa still has a journey to take towards final freedom from poverty, inequality and high rate of unemployment amongst our youth," he said.
