Forty-four additional metro police and traffic officers will now patrol the section known as a hotspot for criminality.
The city's Safety and Security MMC, JP Smith, said that the newly deployed officers will also have drone assistance to police any criminal activity on this dangerous part of the N2 highway.
Smith said they're also noticing a shift in criminality to other city highways.
"The freeway safety plan covers all the main freeways, and several of them have hotspots that we have to deal with. That hotspot, for instance, recently started including the N1 closer to Cape Town, where the people on the Transnet and PRASA [Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa] road reserves started also to engage in these attacks on motorists. The additional deployment will help increase the frequency and presence on these roads."
