National Correctional Services Commissioner Samuel Thobakgale says tough action will be taken against officials found to be in the wrong in the erroneous release of inmates from Pollsmoor.
Several prisoners have walked out of the facility undetected in recent months, mostly by impersonating other inmates going to court.
Thobakgale has brought in Abel Mashaba and Michael Mafukata from outside the Western Cape to take control of the facility's remand centre, where most of the escapes occurred.
Thobakgale has launched a probe to get to the bottom of the recent escapes at Pollsmoor prison.
Thobakgale said Mashaba and Mafukata will lead the investigations and institute corrective measures.
"Their brief is not only limited to erroneous releases, but their brief is also to ensure that there's stability and that management systems and practices are restored at Pollsmoor."
He said the two senior officials will remain deployed until their assignment is fully achieved.
