The family of slain former Richmond municipal manager, Sibusiso Sithole, said that despite the man convicted of killing him being sentenced on Tuesday, they still want to know who the mastermind behind his killing is.
On Tuesday, the Durban High Court will sentence convicted murderer, Sabelo Phewa.
Phewa was convicted for two murders, including that of the former manager and Amos Ngcobo, both shot and killed in February 2024.
He was also convicted of the attempted murder of a police officers, as well as firearms and ammunition-related charges.
It's been eight years since Sithole was killed and his family says it’s been difficult to find closure not knowing the motive behind his murder.
They say the family, including his wife and childrens lives, have forever changed.
His brother, Mluleki Sithole: "I cannot lie, it’s been very hard since our brother has left us - we’ve been struggling."
His sister, Sibongile Hlatshwayo-Sithole: "He wasn’t just a breadwinner; Sbu financed so many kids at schools. Some of them have had to drop out from school and left his own kids, who also could not be funded to go to school anymore. So many things went wrong from that moment he left our lives."
And while the Durban High Court will on Tuesday sentence Phewa, the family remains hopeful the mastermind will still be nabbed.
