Two suspects will make court appearances in Cape Town this coming week after they were arrested in separate busts for the possession of drugs.
The arrests are part of Operation Shanela II - a multi-disciplinary approach to crime fighting launched in June.
It involves the South African Police Service (SAPS) and City of Cape Town Metro Police, as well as Law Enforcement Advancement Plan (LEAP) officers into one united effort to bring perpetrators of violent crime to justice.
Officers searched a residence in Khayelitsha on Saturday night, where they found a 33-year-old in possession of 201 small packets containing crystal meth. The suspect will appear in the Khayelitsha Magistrates Court on Monday.
But the police's Wesley Twigg explained this was not the only arrest on Sunday night: “In an unrelated matter, members of Operation Shanela II deployed in Manenberg area, searched a premises in Sein Road, Manenberg, where they confiscated a large quantity of dagga that was found on the premises. A 34-year-old suspect was arrested for the possession of dagga. He will appear in the Athlone Magistrates Court on Monday.”
