JOHANNESBURG - Minister of Social Development Sisisi Tolashe said she is confident in the fraud and corruption prevention systems of the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA).

The agency has added several security measures to ensure all rightful beneficiaries receive their financial grant.

Tolashe said recipients must enrol in their biometric systems, which form part of their flagship initiatives.

Earlier in 2025, SASSA was under fire over a chaotic grant verification process that left many frustrated.

The agency has been attempting to implement security measures to prevent fraudulent activities.

This follows the discovery made by two Stellenbosch students who had taken note of major vulnerabilities in the system.

Meanwhile, Tolashe said she is aware of the agency’s tainted image, but they are working on addressing the myriad of issues.
