Jacobs has recently been announced as the PA’s new mayoral candidate for the Mother City, ending his campaign in the capital. This is the latest move for the outspoken 24-year-old politician, who has had an eventful three months since defecting from the Democratic Alliance (DA).
Jacobs joined the Patriotic Alliance, he was revealed as the party’s mayoral candidate in Tshwane, a city where he studied. Despite running for the mayoral seat in the capital, Jacobs was sworn in as a councillor in the City of Johannesburg.
He was due to replace the suspended Kenny Kunene as MMC for Transport; however, Johannesburg Mayor Dada Morero had reservations over his lack of experience.
On Monday, PA leader Gayton McKenzie announced Jacobs would be resigning as a Johannesburg councillor and ending his campaign in Tshwane.
"Now we are playing chess, not checkers, chess. Our mayoral candidate is Liam Jacobs. Congratulations, you have got big shoes to fill," McKenzie said.
Jacobs has also been announced as the new leader for the PA’s Youth League.
