Joburg Water temporarily closes critical reservoir to build capacity

JOHANNESBURG - Joburg Water has announced it will temporarily close the Alexander Park reservoir to help build water capacity in the Berea reservoir, which is faced with critically low levels.
The utility said the Berea water system is under pressure due to consistently high demand
Areas expected to be affected by this move include Bruma, Bertrams and surrounding suburbs.
Joburg Water said it will temporarily close the Berea reservoir overnight to allow faster recovery while water usage is lower.

This means low-lying areas will continue to receive water, while high-lying areas may experience low to no water pressure during this period.
In a second measure, the utility said the Alexander Park reservoir will remain closed until its levels recover to at least 50% capacity.
Joburg Water is urging residents to remain patient, assuring the public that the situation is being closely monitored.
