JOHANNESBURG - Chief Justice Mandisa Maya has announced to international delegates that South Africa is on the path to full independence.
South Africa is hosting the Constitutional Courts and Supreme Courts Summit in Sandton on Wednesday, where heads of judiciaries of G20 nations are attending.
In her address, Maya highlighted the challenges faced by South Africa’s judiciary, including achieving complete independence.
As things stand, the judiciary does not have complete control over its budget, not allowing the Office of the Chief Justice to lead administrative and infrastructure projects in the country’s courts.
While addressing delegates, Maya pointed out the need for an independent judiciary.
