JOHANNESBURG - Democratic Alliance (DA) Gauteng leader Solly Msimanga has threatened to file a motion of no confidence against Premier Panyaza Lesufi.
Msimaga addressed dozens of DA supporters outside Lesufi’s office in Johannesburg on Wednesday morning during an anti-crime campaign.
The DA handed over a memorandum to Lesufi’s office, raising issues of concern around crime in the province and the lack of resources at police stations.
Msimanga said Lesufi is not serious about fighting crime.
Speaking outside Lesufi’s office in Joburg’s CBD this morning, Msimanga threatened to file a motion of no confidence against Lesufi.
"We are seeing more vehicles around this building here than you would have at certain police stations. So we are saying cannot continue to happen, and therefore if he [Lesufi] is not willing to engage us and not willing to listen, then perhaps it is time for him to go."
Special advisor to Lesufi, Mxolisi Xayayi, said Msimanga is making empty threats on issues they’ve prioritised and addressed.
" We have assisted extensively. If you look at the number of wardens that are around, including their vehicles, working with SAPS in police stations. They are not just working on their own; they are working in police stations."
The DA has raised issues about a lack of vehicles at several police stations in the province, as well as holding cells.
