Gauteng community safety committee welcomes rape & murder-accused Eldorado Park couple's move to abandon bail

JOHANNESBURG - The portfolio committee on community safety in Gauteng has welcomed the decision by the Eldorado Park couple charged with the rape and murder of their four-year-old child to abandon bail.
The committee said that individuals accused of heinous crimes such as rape and murder should remain in custody and not be released on bail.
The couple appeared together at the Protea Magistrate's Court, where they face a string of charges.

The daughter in question was found beaten and bleeding, while the couple’s two-year-old son was allegedly beaten until his arm broke earlier this year.
There has been much public outrage with community members calling for justice and government officials promising to keep a close eye on the matter.
Chairperson of the committee, Bandile Masuku: "As elected representatives of the people of Gauteng, the committee will continue to monitor developments in this matter closely until its conclusion. It calls on law enforcement agencies and the judiciary to ensure that a watertight case is presented. Furthermore, the committee urges the courts to impose the harshest possible sentences should the accused be found guilty."
Masuku added that the committee was advocating for accountability and the protection as we mark Women’s Month.
