JOHANNESBURG - Johannesburg Mayor Dada Morero said that the municipality will no longer tolerate the rapid increase of informal settlements.
On Friday, the metro conducted a raid on the Ginger ark informal settlement in Sandton, where several unoccupied structures were demolished.
Morero said that the city has completed its assessments and will soon demolish every structure in the unauthorised settlement.
"We are here in the Ginger Park informal settlement, which was erected illegally and has a high density of illegal foreigners. The purpose today was to come in and assess, and deal with all the empty shacks."
