CAPE TOWN - Some Delft residents, led by church leaders, have come together to pray for an end to violence in their community.

In the past few years, Delft has topped the list for the most killings due to ongoing gun violence in the suburb.

From January to March this year, Delft recorded 66 murders, a 1.5% increase for the same period the previous year.

Community leader and Pastor Charles George said the situation was getting worse by the day.

"What we are witnessing as a community in Delft, we haven't seen before. When one thing pops up on the one side of Delft and nothing is being addressed, it pops up on the other side of Delft. The shootings on the daily basis, the gang violence on the daily basis, the drug abuse, the unemployment, are all issues that the church needs to address."
