CAPE TOWN - The mother of an infant who was abducted at Middestad Mall in Bellville three weeks ago said that she feared for the worst after attending kidnapping-accused Sameemah Jacobs' bail hearing on Thursday.

Jacobs is charged with kidnapping and defeating the ends of justice for allegedly abducting a nine-day-old baby three weeks ago.

The infant's mother fears Jacobs will try to kidnap her child again if she's released on bail.

The bail hearing for Jacobs took a turn in her favour on Thursday after the magistrate questioned the well-being of the accused's seven-year-old child.

Imaan Sharmar, whose infant boy was allegedly abducted by Jacobs, said that she was hoping for a more positive outcome.

"Listening to what was all said today and realising there is a strong possibility that bail is leaning towards her side more, it's really starting to make me feel unsafe again."

State witness in the bail application, Detective Sergeant David Fortuin, said the lengths Jacobs went to in her alleged plan to abduct the baby showed she was desperate and capable of doing so again.

The magistrate told Fortuin that the rights of Jacobs' minor child also needed to be taken into consideration when deciding whether or not she would be released on bail.

The bail hearing will continue on Wednesday next week.
