JOHANNESBURG - Gauteng’s Health Department has activated its emergency measures to address water outages caused by the Rand Water maintenance.
The ongoing work on Rand Water’s infrastructure across the province is expected to be completed on 21 July.
The Health Department said some of its hospitals in Johannesburg had been affected.
At the end of May, Rand Water started its planned maintenance of its infrastructure to secure a continuous water supply.
Many residents in the province are already dealing with decreased or no water flow.
Hospitals such as Hillbrow Community Health Centre, Helen Joseph, and Charlotte Maxeke have also been impacted.
The Gauteng Health Department’s spokesperson, Motalatale Modiba, said, “The good thing is that most of our facilities have a backup system that we are using, either JoJo tanks. Some have reservoirs and others have got boreholes that are assisting them to be able to cope with the current situation.”
He added that they’d continue to keep a close eye on the situation.
