CAPE TOWN - A level four warning for disruptive rainfall in the Western Cape this coming weekend was issued by the South African Weather Service on Wednesday.

The City of Cape Town said that the wet and windy conditions forecast for Thursday to Sunday could cause flooding of informal settlements, roads and waterways.

The City of Cape Town's disaster risk management centre said it was ready to coordinate relief efforts to possible impacts brought about by the incoming storm.

After two days of torrential rain last week, informal settlements across the Western Cape were severely impacted by flooding.

Mayco member for safety and security, JP Smith, said that the city had alerted its NGO partners to be on standby to once again provide humanitarian assistance.

"The city works as quickly as possible to address weather-related issues where they occur. The rate of assessment and action can be slowed by prevailing weather conditions, and we also have to consider the safety of staff members."

The South African Weather Service has also issued yellow level two warnings for damaging winds and waves between Saldanha Bay and Cape Agulhas on Friday, and between Cape Agulhas and Plettenberg Bay on Saturday until Monday morning.
